MONDAY MOTIVATION

November 30, 2020: Lazy Day

Lazy Day

This past week has been full of lazy days for me. So lazy, in fact, that I totally forgot to write this email until I was about to go to bed on Sunday and am now writing this much too late into the night (so I apologize in advance for any typos). But, I think lazy days can be important (when had in moderation of course).

As I spoke about last week, this semester at college got progressively busier as time went on to the point where there was almost no open space on my calendar before Thanksgiving break. And unfortunately, tomorrow morning my calendar starts to fill back up again. So in my best attempt to take dull advantage of this break, I did absolutely nothing. I'm not going to lie though, doing nothing was hard. I kept feeling like I was forgetting to do something or not taking full advantage of this free time to work on something. So I was caught in this cycle of watching Netflix and sleeping all day, feeling bad about watching Netflix and sleeping, and then continuing to watch Netflix and sleep more.

However, as I reached out to friends about how lazy I was and how bad I felt about doing nothing, I was continually told to stop feeling bad and just embrace it. There are definitely times when laziness is not good, but there are also times when it is ok to be a little lazy, and this, fortunately, was one of those times for me. Every once in awhile you need to take a break from the world and just be a little lazy. That break might be for a few days, or maybe just a few hours, but at the end of the day it is important to let your body rest.

This would normally be the place in the email when I challenge you to do something this week, but I don't think it is best to challenge you to be lazy this week as this might need to be a productive week for you. What I will challenge you to do though, is throughout these next couple months and through the holiday season, look for times to take a break if you need one. Maybe you can plan a lazy day after all your family goes home after the holidays, or maybe you just want to plan a little time to watch a movie and eat a snack alone to escape the craziness of the world. Whatever it may be, don't feel bad about being lazy and taking a break when your body needs a rest.

Stay Motivated,
-Dan

Photo Of The Week

A lazy day can come in several different forms. Several times over the past few days being laze for me looked like laying on the couch and staring at the TV, but other times it looked like sitting outside and staring at trees. Whatever your lazy looks like, when you have the designated time to be lazy without falling through on any of your responsibilities, embrace it! Below is a photo of myself and my dog Baxter just sitting outside doing nothing - it was great!
