Jump
I think everyone, to some degree, has things that they are hesitant about. Whether it is starting conversations, picking up a new hobby, buying something new, or really any decision, I think all people hesitate to start doing new things. There are very few people I know that go after everything with no fear.
I was talking with one of my close friends recently about starting new things and making decisions and they simply said, “Dan, sometimes you just gotta jump.” That really stuck with me because I think it is so true. Things in life are rarely going to line up so perfectly that the decision is obvious and easy. Instead of constantly holding back in fear of failure, sometimes you just gotta jump in head first.
When there’s a tough decision to make, or a big cliff to jump off of, it is natural to just want to crawl to the edge and peak over for as long as possible - thus putting off the unknowns and temporarily calming our nerves. But I think sometimes we need to listen to what my friend said and take a running start to jump in head first.
I am definitely someone who gets caught up in my head and doesn’t want to jump into anything unless I know all the details and variables ahead of time. I get so caught up in thinking about possible outcomes that I never start. Take me with this newsletter - from the initial idea to actual starting it took me well over a year! One thing I’ve really tried to ingrain into myself recently is that worrying is a waste of time. I’ve found that once I start something, many of the things I was worried about beforehand prove to be irrelevant.
So that is my challenge to you this week: Jump into something! There has to be something you really want to do but have been on the fence for way too long. So this week I challenge you to stop peaking over the edge and just jump in head first - it has been said by several people older, smarter, and wiser than me that starting is the hardest part. So just start, jump in, go for it - whatever it is, you got it.
Stay Motivated,
-Dan
