MONDAY MOTIVATION

December 28, 2020: Looking Back and Forward

Looking Back and Forward

With this being the last Monday Motivation of the year, I thought I’d talk about how to transition from one year into the next and what I’m thinking about right now. 2020 has been a rough year to say the least, and 2021 is just around the corner. So what is there that we can do, if anything, to make sure 2021 is better? I believe the answer to this is mostly mindset

At the end of the day, the state of the world is the state of the world, there is very little that any single one of us can do to solve the large problems in the world right now. Not to say we shouldn’t try our hardest, but I think as we transition into the new year it is important to take a step back from national or global issues - and just focus on yourself for a second. Look back at the year from a personal perspective. Think back about things that were in your personal control this past year - and reflect on which of those things you didn’t like and want to improve next year, as well as things you liked and want to continue into 2021. As much as this seems like a simple task, I think it is very impactful. Maybe you cooked a lot more this year and found that it was an effective way for you to destress at the end of the day. The simple act of consciously acknowledging that will allow you to bring it into 2021 much easier.

After you look back on your personal life in 2020 and what you liked or didn’t like, it is then time to look forward to 2021. Think about what you want this next year to hold. This might come in the form of resolution, which I talked about a few weeks ago, or it may just look like being a little more conscious about certain things.

So that is my challenge for you this week: look back on 2020 and look forward to 2021. Take some time to seriously consider the different aspects of your life this year and then look forward to what you want to continue or start new in 2021. I think just a little time of conscious reflection can have a huge impact.

Photo Of The Week

I think this photo of mirrored glasses perfectly captures what I am trying to say in a little bit more of an artistic way. The mirror on the glasses represents looking back on 2020 while the glasses themselves represent using 2020 as a filter to look forward into 2021 and focus on what you want this next year to look like in an intentional way.
