Push Through
These past few weeks have really been a whirlwind for me, and the next few weeks aren't looking much easier. With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, and classes preparing to go fully virtual after Thanksgiving, things have really started stacking up. I am a big to-do list person and right now my list is a mess. Yes, I have a few large things going on, but it is the stacking little things that have really started to get to me. It is in times like these though, when everything just seems to be piling up in front of you, that it is important to just charge forward with all you have.
I don't know about you, but for me, I can often find it hard to do small tasks. For instance, there is an email that I've been meaning to send for weeks, but since it isn't time sensitive and doesn't have any repercussions for not sending, I often find myself doing other things that I deem more worth my time. However, I know the day will one day come when all of these tasks add together and become totally overwhelming.
I think everyone, at some point or another, has felt overwhelmed by the tasks in front of them. Now don't get me wrong, I will always advocate for looking out for your mental health, but I think sometimes when there is a lot on your plate the best thing to do can be to just put your head down and try to bust through the work you have to get done. You might not have the most fun doing all the work in the moment, but you will feel so accomplished and relieved when it is all done.
So that is my challenge to you this week: commit. When things get hard or overwhelming it easy to have an urge to disengage. But I think if we are able to fight that urge and get started into what we have to do, it will have highly positive results. Over these next two weeks I have a lot of things I need to get done, and although very few of the things are tasks that I actually want to do, I have decided that my best course of action is to just sit down every day and bust out the next thing on my to-do list. No one absolutely loves what they are doing 100% of the time; there are always hard or stressful seasons. This is why it is important to sometimes just be able to push through, and then celebrate making it to the other side of whatever challenge lays before you.
Stay Motivated,
-Dan
