Take Note
I love motivational quotes. Sometimes a few words in the right order just feel so impactful. And a good quote is much more than just words on a page. The right words can become mottos to live by, create thoughts that inspire, or start movements that change the world. The power of a good quote is truly endless.
A few years ago I was having a serious conversation about life with a few of my friends and it seemed like so many good quotes were being said. So, I took out my phone and started writing them down. Some of the quotes were original thoughts by one of us, and many of them were quotes from other people, but I wrote them all down because they all struck me as motivational or inspiring. A few months after that conversation I stumbled across the note in my phone, which I had totally forgotten about, read through the quotes, and felt really inspired once again. Later that day I heard someone say something inspirational, and decided to add it to the list. This has turned into a little bit of a habit for me now; every time I hear or read something motivational, I just add it to the list. And over the past few years it has become quite a long note on my phone. I have found that writing these things down does two things for me. One, it helps me remember them. And two, the list has become an incredible resource for when I need motivation. Over the years I have added quotes from books, TV shows, movies, professors, friends, and even myself if I say something motivational or have a motivational thought.
Writing down these quotes has served me well. It is a totally personalized source of words that have motivated or inspired me over the past two years. And it contains quite a diverse amount of content too, so whatever I am in the need for - I can find it. I personally love writing them down on my phone, but I have heard of several other people doing a similar thing in different ways. Whether it is a note on your phone, flashcards on your nightstand, or Post-it notes on your bathroom mirror, I think writing down things that inspire you, and being able to remember them and be reminded of them can really make an impact on your life.
So that is my challenge to you this week: take note of what motivates or inspires you. Now I don’t want you to just google a list of quotes and cherry-pick your favorite ones. I think one of the powerful things about this list is that I only add things that I come up naturally and really ring true to me. This has allowed my list to become extremely personalized and every quote has a memory attached to it as well. So however you decide to do it, I encourage you to take note and slowly start building a list because over time it will become an incredibly strong personal resource.
Stay Motivated,
-Dan
